SUMMER CREATIVE WRITING IN WALES

The English Department sponsors a faculty-led 12-day intensive creative writing program each year, from late May to early June, hosted by University of Wales Trinity St David at their historic campus in Lampeter in rural west Wales.  The course is a version of ENGL 475, Special Studies in Creative Writing, a 3-credit class that can count toward the English major or writing minor.  This small program, limited to about 15 undergraduate and graduate students from different U.S. universities, has a “Spirit of Place” theme that invites students to engage with the remarkable landscapes of Wales, and to use this awareness of place wherever their future writing may take them.

The $3600 program cost includes everything except airfare: tuition, private accommodations with private bath, all meals, daily excursions, airport pick-up and return in London, international health insurance. Financial aid opportunities include two $1000 scholarships awarded each year by the English department.

The deadline to apply is February 15.  Details, including the daily itinerary, are here.  For more information, contact Prof. Sally Shivnan at shivnan@umbc.edu.
