English Honors Student Selected for Undergrad Research Award
English Honors student Anna Hartman has been selected for a 2019 Undergraduate Research Award. Her project, "Rhetoric of Uprising: Press Discourse of Maryland Race Uprisings from 1845-2015,” is a digital exhibition that Anna is completing for her Honors thesis. Anna will collect, curate and annotate primary sources from three uprisings in Maryland that center African Americans’ resistance to state-sanctioned violence: an 1845 uprising of enslaved people in southern Maryland; the 1968 Holy Week uprisings following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and the 2015 uprisings in response to the death of Freddie Gray. Anna will use her award to conduct archival research at the Maryland Historical Society, Library of Congress, and other regional archives and to purchase a web platform for her digital exhibition. Congratulations, Anna!
