Emerging Scholar Talk: A.D. Carson

The English Department is pleased to announce an upcoming talk by our visiting Emerging Scholar, A. D. Carson. Mr. Carson received his MA in English from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2008 and is currently in his third year in the interdisciplinary Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design PhD program at Clemson University. His research interests include rap/rhetoric, the poetics of Hip-Hop, de/composition, social media, poetry, education, and African-American literature. While working in District 186 he was named Writer-In-Residence for Quiddity International Literary Journal and Public Radio Program at Benedictine University, where he eventually taught classes on “The Poetics of Hip-Hop” and African-American literature and hosted community writing workshops on performance poetry, Hip-Hop writing, and community engagement through writing. 

His talk, entitled "Owning My Masters: The Rhetoric of Rhymes and Revolutions," will be held in the English Department on Wednesday, April 27, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Performing Arts and Humanities Building, Room 428.
