Corbin Jones(BA 2018; MA 2020) developed an interest in medieval studies in classes with Professor Kathryn McKinley. As an undergraduate English major, he completed the interdepartmental Medieval and Early Modern Studies Minor. From his Master’s thesis, “Narrating the ‘Self’ in 14th-Century Travel Writings: John Mandeville and ibn Battuta,” he has had two international conference papers accepted. He will be presenting a Mandeville paper at the New Chaucer Society Congress in Durham, UK, in July 2022. As part of his research, he studied medieval manuscripts of the Moroccan traveler and jurist Ibn Battuta at the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris. In the spring of 2021, Cornell University admitted Corbin into its doctoral program in English with full funding. Corbin was one of only five students admitted out of 400 applicants. He began his studies there this fall and is excited to be able to participate in the university’s well-known interdepartmental medieval studies programs. Congratulations, Corbin!
